Job Description

Location: 1400 CD-Community Permitting
Pay Grade: A10
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Under general supervision, supervises and participates in operations of the Permitting and Licensing Division.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises staff engaged in the issuance of permits and licenses.
  • Coordinates, schedules and distributes work assignments to the permit clerks, providing guidance and direction as necessary.
  • Trains and offers guidance to staff on matters pertaining to permitting, protocols, and licensing.
  • Monitors employee work performance and identifies performance issues.
  • Conducts difficult and complex tasks for the issuance of permits and licensing.
  • Reviews and approves time records of employees.
  • Prepares reports, writes memorandums and correspondence.
  • Maintains and tracks applications received.
  • Ensures that plan submittals are processed and distributed in a timely fashion.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve or implement new business processes and innovative best practices within the Community Development Department.
  • Develops and implements processes for permits, licenses, Click-to-Gov, and Land Management.
  • Provides customer service for the general public, answering questions, problem solving, and providing conflict resolution in person and over the phone.
  • Coordinates with the Planning and Development Division on development of property as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert minimal physical effort in sedentary work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
