Location: 5120 GS Fleet Maintenance
Pay Grade: A08
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Under general supervision, performs basic servicing, maintenance, repair, and mechanical duties on light to heavy automotive vehicles and equipment.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive” and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

Essential Job Functions

  • Repairs City-owned vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, and small engines.
  • Performs basis diagnostics and repairs, including minor electrical and system defects.
  • Determines maintenance on various gasoline and diesel automotive and mechanic equipment for a variety of functional areas including tires, brakes, climate control, suspension, steering, and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs tune-ups and carburetor overhauls.
  • Operates various hand and power tools; overhauls engines on passenger cars and light to medium trucks; participates and assists in overhauls on diesel engines for various equipment including graders, tractors and bulldozers.
  • Repairs and replaces brakes and clutches; repairs and aligns front ends; repairs exhaust systems.
  • Greases and lubricates vehicles; checks transmission, water and battery; checks hydraulic oil; washes and waxes vehicles.
  • Out?ts new vehicles and equipment.
  • Fabricates parts to repair or alter equipment.
  • Assists with preventative maintenance on City vehicles to include tire rotations, oil changes, and filter replacements.
  • Makes ?eld service calls as necessary.
  • Maintains shop equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL Driver’s License issued by the State of Oklahoma within 9 months of employment.

Certification pay clearly communicates how leadership may award additional pay for employees who obtain skills and training beneficial to the City. Certification pay will include $25 per certification received, to a maximum of five (5) certifications paid, above and beyond the requirements of the position.

Certifications: ASE Certification from the Automobile and Light Truck ASE Certifications (A1-A9) or from the Medium-Heavy Truck ASE Certifications (T1-T8)

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert exceptionally strong physical e?ort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, ?ngering, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 150 pounds).
