Job Description

Location: 1501 Finance-Accounting
Pay Grade: A10
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Under general supervision, performs specialized duties in the administration of the payroll processing system.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collects, calculates, processes, and reviews payroll; maintains the classification and pay system for all employees.
  • Researches, verifies, updates, and corrects discrepancies on documents to reflect up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Balances, verifies, and approves various payroll reports before payroll checks are printed and tax reports are completed.
  • Communicates with city employees and management to verify and explain compensation information and to answer related inquiries specific to payroll.
  • Processes garnishment and child support orders for city employees.
  • Creates, verifies, and processes W-2 information annually.
  • Maintains security within the Payroll/Executime application.
  • Completes and verifies various forms for the Police pension system.
  • Maintains current and complete payroll records in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Performs special assignments as requested, including researching and compiling information for reports.
  • Balances and maintains position control as it relates to the current budget.
  • Assists the Budget Officers with budget preparation and payroll projections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert minimal physical effort in sedentary work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
