General Purpose
Supervises water repair crew in the maintenance, repair, and general up keep of the water distribution system.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises crew in the repair of water and/or wastewater infrastructure.
Oversees quality control of work performed.
Ensure repairs to water and/or wastewater infrastructure is repaired correctly and in a timely manner.
Ensures new water taps, setting of meter and meter boxes are done correctly and in a timely manner.
Keeps PWA Administrative Assistant advised when water service is to be interrupted due to repairs as well as when water service is restored.
Ensures that water quality is not compromised during water repairs.
Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, low water pressure, water quality issues, and/or no water.
Responds to complaints regarding wastewater backups, stoppages, and/or overflows.
Makes contact with residents and business owners in areas where water/wastewater services may be interrupted and provides an explanation and estimated time frame when services may be restored.
Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
Maintains parts inventory for repairs.
Responds to or assist other crews as needed.
Keeps Public Works Director advised of issues during repairs.
Enforces safety procedures, City policies, and work rules.
Assists supervisor with safety and operational training.
Assists supervisor with personnel evaluations.

Typical Qualifications

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
(A)Graduation from High School or GED equivalent
(B)Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
(C)Posses “D” water license or the ability to obtain license within 12 months of hire.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater infrastructure repair practices.
  2. Knowledge of water tap installation practices.
  3. Skills in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
  4. Ability to operate various types of equipment needed to make water distribution repairs; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to work in inclement weather; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work with disgruntled customers.
(E)Ability to carry out assigned work with little supervision and ability to ensure work schedules are met.

Peripheral Duties
Serves as a member of various employee committees, as needed.
Other duties, as assigned.
Responds to emergency, after hour, call outs.
Required to be on stand-by.
