Job Summary
The Volunteer Firefighter performs activities required to protect life and property by engaging in firefighting,administering basic first aid, and providing other assistance as required.
The Volunteer responds to emergency fire calls, as well as accidents, man-made and natural disasters, bomb threats, public search and rescue, and emergency medical calls.Examples of Duties
Job Responsibilities
• Performs firefighting and fire-prevention activities including climbing ladders, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, driving fire apparatus, and performing fire combat, containment, and extinguishment tasks.
• Performs emergency medical assistance activities including administering basic first aid and providing other assistance as required.
• Trains for and participates in the protection of life and property by firefighting and rescue activities. Participates in fire drills and attends training classes in firefighting, first aid, emergency medical calls and related subjects.
• Handles routine custodial maintenance of the fire department equipment (such as oxygen breathing equipment, resuscitation equipment, etc., apparatus and quarters. Cleans, washes and dries hose, tools and other apparatus. Participates in maintenance of trucks and equipment. Polishes and tests equipment. Cleans station and performs minor building maintenance.
• Conforms to the safety requirements of the department.
• Prepares call reports and keeps other records as required.
• Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements:
Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
Experience Required:
Most skills and abilities required to perform this job in an effective and efficient mannerare acquired through training and job experience. Volunteer employees receive immediate supervision fromsuperiors, usually with detailed instructions. Tasks requiring established regulations and procedures are reviewedfor accuracy.
Must obtain Firefighter 1 certification and a minimum of Emergency Medical Responder within the first two (2) years of service.Supplemental Information
Primary Work Location:
Fire Station. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inoutside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precariousplaces; is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or causticchemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate,except during certain firefighting activities when the noise levels may be loud.
Employee may be exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens. Hepatitis B Vaccination is available.
