Job Summary: Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates various equipment to assist in the maintenance of the cemetery and City streets and other infrastructure.

Examples of Duties

Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  1. Assists with maintaining equipment and tools.
  2. Assists with the opening and closing of grave sites.
  3. Fills sunken grave sites, picks up trash and debris, throughout the cemetery.
  4. Assists in locating existing grave sites and marking for opening.
  5. Operates a variety of mowing equipment.
  6. Mow grass, trims hedges, trim trees and cut weeds as directed.
  7. Repair and install street signage.
  8. Pick up trash and litter as directed.
  9. Respond to work orders for all public works service requests, as assigned.
  10. Report equipment and tool defects to supervisor.
  11. Respond to after-hours call-outs.
  12. Serve as a member of various employee committees as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Employment
An employee in this position must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:
Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in cemetery systems and general maintenance of streets and landscapes.
  • Must be familiar with, or have the ability to become familiar with city cemetery rules, city code of ordinances, city safety policies and procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to mechanized equipment operation.
Skills
  • Basic skill in the operation of common hand and power tools including shovels, wrenches, lawn mowers, weed eaters, saws, pumps, compressors, two-way radio, and telephone.
  • Skilled in the operation of (or ability to learn) zero-turn mower, dump truck, backhoe, mini-excavator.
  • Operation of two-way radio and motor vehicles, including half-ton and one-ton trucks.
Abilities
  • Ability to operate and maintain various equipment used in cemetery maintenance and general repair and maintenance.
  • Adhere to all City and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to travel to other locations by operating a motor vehicle.
  • Understand and carry-out written and oral instructions.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Work in inclement weather.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
Other requirements:Must be able to read and write the English language. Must be able to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Certifications: Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Supplemental Information

Primary Work Location: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.
