The starting pay for this position is $15.00/hr. After successful completion of a one-year trial period with OTRD, the rate of pay may increase to $15.45/hr.Job Description
Basic Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team in maintaining facility standards, supporting animal welfare, and assisting with educational programming. This role requires a strong commitment to animal care, customer service, and physical labor in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Typical Function
Facility Maintenance
Ensure housekeeping standards are met across all areas
Perform trail, and enclosure upkeep, including repairs and cleaning
Assist with general groundskeeping and facility organization
Animal Welfare
Provide basic husbandry care for animals
Prepare and distribute meals according to dietary needs
Maintain enclosures to ensure safety, cleanliness, and enrichment
Customer Service & Education
Greet and assist visitors with professionalism and courtesy
Support programming and public outreach activities
Answer questions and provide information about the park, facility, and animal ambassadors
Physical Requirements
Ability to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs
Comfortable with hiking and working on trails
Willingness to work in varying weather conditions (indoors and outdoors)
Stamina for physically demanding tasks
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Scheduled hours will require flexibility, including holidays, weekends, or events, based on the needs of the department
Background in animal welfare and husbandry, combined with experience in environmental education, ecology, or related fields
Strong communication and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of environmental science and natural and cultural history; and of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to exercise initiative and work independently; to take direction and instruction; to organize and direct the work assignments of assigned staff; and to motivate assigned staff.
